Dreambox 7000 - Links
This page is not maintained, as I no longer play with this stuff. Sorry for any broken links!
This is a digital satellite receiver, powered by Linux. There are also versions for Cable and DTT as well as Satellite (dual-tuner versions are available - any mix). The Dreambox 7000 is pretty impressive, but it's not for those people who want a simple consumer box that works without configuration effort. The advantage of this box is flexibility, for technically-minded consumers who like to take control, and perhaps use network streaming, time-shifting, etc.
For what it's worth, here are some hints, plus my list of bookmarks. Please don't email me with questions! For support questions please use the Messageboard links below. I am not an expert: I've just written these notes to aid my own memory, and to give potential users a flavour for what's possible. I haven't really fiddled with this stuff recently, so please ask your questions on the messageboards.

- busybox Used as standard in Dreambox. BusyBox combines tiny versions of common UNIX utilities in one small executable. You then call the utility you want from a link to the command name.

- Dreambox software. Enigma daily builds plus some useful daemons like NFS and NTP. This is cool if you want to try the latest CVS version of Enigma, but can't get it to build on your PC.
- How to test a new Enigma build from hard disk. The text refers to an IDE hard disk, but I think this will work for NFS remote disks provided that you bring up the network interface and mount the NFS volume early on in "start_enigma".

- Note: The berliOS site hosts the CVS repository, but to build DREAMBOX from sources, you need to make sure you check out the right branch. See "Hints And Tips" above.
